AbbVie Leads Industry in Dow Jones Sustainability World Index
AbbVie is the industry leader in Dow Jones Sustainability World Index with the highest score of 34 biotechnology companies.

AbbVie leads the industry in this year’s Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI), achieving the highest score among 34 biotechnology companies.

This is the third year in a row that AbbVie has placed highly on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. Following a best-in-class approach, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index series measures performance of the world’s largest companies based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria and business practices that create long-term shareholder value.

AbbVie had the highest industry score on 12 of 22 criteria, which translates into being in the 100th percentile for more than half the criteria. In the categories of Environmental Reporting and Talent Attraction & Retention, AbbVie scored a perfect 100. Our Social Reporting and Operational Eco-Efficiency scores showed the greatest increases from 2015, both increasing by more than 10 points.

AbbVie is listed on both DJSI World and DJSI North America.

“Our goal is to improve lives and to address the world’s toughest health challenges in a transparent and sustainable manner,” said Tracie Haas, vice president, corporate responsibility, brand and communications, AbbVie. “It’s outstanding to be included in the World Index and be among companies with leading sustainable practices.”

AbbVie’s corporate responsibility commitments are to improve health outcomes, operate responsibly and contribute to communities. We commit to targeting patient needs while cultivating an ethical, transparent and inclusive culture to drive sustainable growth as we partner with our communities to address the challenges of the underserved.

RobecoSAM, an international investment company with a specific focus on sustainability investments that performed the survey, invited more than 3,400 publicly traded companies to participate in the evaluation.

Companies were required to demonstrate the ability to address resource scarcity, demographic shifts and climate change, factors which are redefining public policy, regulatory frameworks, business environments and investment outcomes.
