Our Commitment to the Most Common Adult Leukemia

This weekend, AbbVie joins more than 20,000 hematology professionals for the world’s premiere event in hematology, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting to share new research in the most common form of adult leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). 

CLL is a slow-growing type of cancer that most commonly arises from B cells, a type of white blood cell (called lymphocytes) that originates in the bone marrow. ¹ The cancer (leukemia) cells start in the bone marrow but then go into the blood. These cells crowd out healthy blood cells and make it difficult for the body to fight infection.¹ 

CLL is more prevalent in men and mainly affects older adults. It’s estimated that 115,000 patients in the United States live with this blood cancer, with approximately 19,000 newly diagnosed patients every year.
