Important Facts About Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells of which there are several types.1 Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a cancer of blood cells (leukemia) in which the bone marrow produces abnormal myeloblasts (type of immature white blood cells), red blood cells or platelets. 2 AML is the most common type of leukemia in adults, yet continues to have the lowest survival rate of all leukemia. Although survival rates have improved remarkably in younger patients, the prognosis in older patients remains very poor.2
